After many, many years being an employee for a large corporation, it sometimes still takes time to get my head around having my own business, setting my own hours and working from my home. I love it!!
My day starts around 6.30am with a quiet cup of tea and a catch up on emails or everyone’s favourite, Facebook, while the house is still, before my 3 children arise. Once the kids are up the craziness starts and it’s last minute homework completion, breakfast, reading logs, bag packing for after school activities, lunch making and all that fun stuff that goes with being a mum to 3 school age children!!
The school run these days is a bike ride, which is a plus of living close to school and no longer being tied to the 9 – 5 job for an employer!! It’s a great way to connect with the kids, and they love it.
After the school ride, it’s home to the workshop to make the magic happen.
Each day at work may be a little different. Some days I’ll pour a batch of specially ordered candles in a range of scents, and others I will focus on one scent each pour. As the poured candles are curing, they are meticulously checked for quality and if required small adjustments are made to ensure that the wicks are right and each candle is perfect.
I love the days that I am home pouring as the house smells amazing and I absolutely love being hands on for the whole production process.
On the days that I’m not pouring, I may have a meeting with my business partner, or make preparations for a big pour day, write a blog for the website or even pop into school to listen to some reading in my daughter’s year 1 class!!
Each day orders that are reading to go are packaged up and either taken to the post office for delivery, or picked up by the courier. As well as being hand poured, each Piper and Grace candle is also hand packaged, wrapped and posted by me.
The school ride is then on again and the onslaught of the after school activities starts, soccer or cricket training, swimming and ballet with some dinner prep between taxiing the children.
After the children are in bed, it’s cup of tea time, catch up with my husband, emails and ordering supplies!!
